Why We’re Slowing Down: The Journey to Minimal, Intentional Design

There was a time when creating and curating beautiful jewellery — statement, trend-led pieces — felt like enough. But somewhere along the way, I started to ask myself whether I wanted more from this business. The rush to keep up with seasons, styles, and demand had replaced my joy of creating. I found myself wondering, Is this really why I started in the first place? Do we really need more of everything, or do we simply need meaning behind what we consume?
Ninth Hour (previously Breath Ceramics) began as a love letter to thoughtful beauty - but like many of us, it was swept up in a culture of 'more'. This decision to shift from fast to slow, from excess to essence, is deeply personal. It's a return to stillness, to creativity, to meaning. It's an intentional pause to realign what we make with what we value. One that will endure past trends.
In a world of instantaneous gratification, where we are saturated with beautiful feeds, reality starts to feel less. I believe that there will be a turning point - back to meaning, back to quality, back to craft. This slow path is different. It asks for patience. It values process over product. It celebrates creativity that is not just beautiful, it is personal and enduring.
"We believe in a considered life: one where beauty is purposeful, sustainable, and rooted in mindfulness."
OUR PHILOSOPHY
This philosophy guides everything we do.
Fewer We create in small, considered batches — each piece purposeful and
necessary.
Intentional Every design begins with meaning — a purpose, a moment, a feeling.
Considered To slow down, to create with awareness, and to honour the value of every
decision, material, and maker
Timeless We design for longevity, not for trends.
WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOU
As we transition, you’ll start to see this shift reflected in every part of Ninth Hour — from our collections to our packaging, our imagery to our storytelling. Our designs are created in small batches, each piece carrying a provenance story — where it came from, who made it, and why it matters.
This is a journey toward mindfulness in design — where every piece holds space for reflection, connection, and purpose.
